The live-feeding of these developed creatures likely causes the same suffering as the live-feeding of mammals. Live-feeding of animals is an inhumane practice that must be avoided whenever possible. It is only justified if a predator absolutely cannot be trained to eat anything but live prey.

If the snake does manage to swallow prey that is too large, it will either throw it back up, or may actually die. It’s not a common problem — most snakes won’t swallow something that’s too big — but it can happen in rare cases.

There is no real harm in feeding 2 days in a row now and again, but I wouldn’t recommend it long term. Snakes need time to digest and use the energy they get from food, so having a full belly all the time is not good.

A snake owner who leaves a hungry rat in the snake cage may find the snake partially consumed by the rat. Hungry crickets and mealworms can attack a snake’s skin and eyes to obtain moisture or sustenance.

The only humane way to euthanize a rat at home without veterinary help is with carbon dioxide (CO2). Euthanasia with CO2 is approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

As hard as it is to implement crushing the skull would be the quickest and most humane way to kill a small animal. To ensure that the method is quick I would use a spade, or similar tool, place it on the skull then press down forcefully.

It’s not pleasant but you owe the rat a humane death. Freezing it alive is cruel. Short answer no. While it is cruel to the animal to die in whatever death, this is the most humane (haha) way.
